Internets: Research aids
Published on March 20, 2007 by The Sentinel
Now that spring break is over, it’s time to get serious. Now is the
time to get started on that daunting research paper. Procrastinating
any more will only lead to serious pain and stress in April. Writing a
paper doesn’t have to be so difficult though. Thanks once again to the
Internet, students have tools galore to make the semester-long task
easier.
NetLibrary
Sometimes, going to the library is just a hassle. That’s where
NetLibrary comes in. This site carries KSU’s full collection of
electronic books. This means if a book is checked out in the actual
library, they’re still available online in their full text form. The
entire collection is available to students, and once a student
registers, he or she can add notes and virtually highlight the books.
This is one of the most useful online services the campus offers. The
site can be accessed by clicking “Find a Book” on the KSU Library
information page.
Newspaper Source
The full text of over 300 newspapers and news wires from around the
world is available on this online database. Newspaper Source is an
invaluable tool for students trying to chronicle events. This type of
resource would normally cost an incredible amount of money, but lucky
for us, KSU gives this to students free of charge. That is our tuition
money at work. This can also be reached by clicking “Find a Newspaper”
on the KSU Library information page.
EasyBib
This site is a lifesaver as well as a timesaver. Students everywhere
have run into the hassle of trying to figure out how to cite the
information they got from a random comic they found on the web; EasyBib
makes this possible. All the user has to do is click the first box,
click “Cartoon,” then “Online” in the second box, followed by the
“Next” button. The subsequent page is a series of boxes asking for the
source’s information after a student fills this out, the site prints
out the source in MLA format, free of charge. Of course, the site
offers more, such as parenthetical documentation and APA style, but
that requires an $8 membership. They aren’t covered or suggested by
KSU, but the site is still an amazing tool. It can be found at www.easybib.com
