Get dissed, and have fun doing it

As a part of its annual “Dis-Orientation” week, the Kennesaw
Activities Board (KAB) will bring comedian Jasper Redd to KSU on Wed.,
Sept. 24. Redd will perform from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Universtity
Room C-E.
Redd, who hails from Knoxville, TN, began his career as a comedian when he moved to San Francisco in 2002. There he worked local clubs until he got his big break in 2004 with an appearance on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” a show that featured performances by the comedy world’s rising stars. Since then he has appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, the Def Comedy Jam, and Last Call with Carson Daily. Redd was profiled in the documentary “A Comic Calling,” a film that examines why stand-up comedians risk their reputations, if not their lives, in front of audiences night after night. Redd was named the champion at the 2005 Yo Mamma Joke Tournament, having delivered the ultimate insult to your proverbial mother. Any fan of the late comedian Mitch Hedberg will find Jasper Redd’s style very similar. He is laid back and he tends to avoid politics and pressing issues.
Redd’s appearance is just one of the events planned for Dis-Orientation Week this year. Dis-Orientation week runs from Sept. 23 through Sept. 25 and kicks off with a “Thinkfast” Comedy Variety Show from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday in University Room A-E. Students who attend the show will have the opportunity to answer questions asked by host Grant Edmonds and even go on stage to perform. Anyone who takes the stage will receive some sort of cash prize. The following day, Redd will bring down the house. Finally, on Thursday, there will be free blacklight laser tag and skating at Sparkles, located at 1000 Mccollum Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Only the first 100 people to RSVP will get this deal, so make sure to check out the KAB Web site for details on reserving a spot.
KAB runs most operations like this one. They help organize special events for students, including performances by bands and comedians throughout the year. Keon Ghaffar-Jabbari, a member of KAB, said, “I am most excited about getting out of the muck and mush from exams and attending another free event KAB has to offer.” Be sure to check the calendar of events on KAB’s Web site for more information. www.kennesaw.edu/studentlife/kab/shtml
